One of the things that he reveals is that there will be several tracks based on real world locations in the game, for which the studio has done extensive research to study terrain, environments, and more to deliver authentic recreations. Or to be precise, Oculus noticed whats going on, and offered to pay for VR development.

NoVRnoBuy: Codemasters, please add VR support for Dirt Rally 2.0 on PC and PS4. For those who prefer their rally experience with an HMD, the DiRT Rally titles are still the go-to platform. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who’s played DiRT Rally or DiRT 4 (or most other DiRT games, for that matter), but the actual racing is looking top-notch. There is still no VR support for WRC, either. Packed with amazing features for racers, streamers and VR support. DiRT 4 works reasonably well in VR using. The results can be mixed, everything from barely working to nearly native-level VR.

Racing games work so well in VR, I always try to find a way to play them in VR with either a mod or, most often, by using VorpX. Reportedly, the Rift also works just fine with the Oculus Store version of DiRT 2.A couple weeks ago we were treated to a good chunk of gameplay from Codemasters’ upcoming rally racing simulator, DiRT Rally 2.0, thanks to a livestream, and now thanks to another livestream (which you can view below), we have even more of that. Now, every other title on the machine works just fine with Steam and our Oculus headset. What we can say is that the detail inside the vehicle was exquisite, it’s just a shame that we couldn’t actually race anywhere. We were spawned in our car at the starting line, but everything happened in slow motion, the image jumped around constantly and nothing we did on the gamepad made the car go. Strawman argument there, because the only strength to that arguement would be if the entire Steam community purchased Drit 4, only 1 would be able to use VR. Now, there’s nothing wrong with that, but at the time of writing using an Oculus headset with the Steam version of DiRT 2.0 is completely borked. My Response: TLDR: There are more new VR headset owners in Q3 of 2017 alone than the overall Steam sales of Dirt 4 since it's launch. Instead, Steam players only get to use OpenVR. Which seems like it should not be a problem, but only the version of the game sold on the Oculus Store currently uses the Oculus SDK. The copy of DiRT 2.0 we have is the Steam version. You may want to hang on however, since in our testing things did not go as well as expected. Of course, never say never, plans change and things change over time but DiRT 5 is launching on six different platforms so were fully focused on getting those nailed down, so theres nothing in the pipeline at this. I am reading everywhere that Dirt 4 doesn't support VR, yet there is a post here asking what settings others are using (that suggests that it does support VR). CG: At the moment there are no plans to implement VR support for DiRT 5.

Getting DirtyĭiRT 2.0 is available on both the Oculus Store and Steam. It looks absolutely fantastic and plays well, but the really big news is the addition of VR support in a recent patch. The DiRT rally games are no exception and this writer has whiled away countless hours utterly failing to complete rally stages on anything but the car’s roof.ĭiRT 2.0 is the latest in a long line of DiRT games and takes everything previous titles have done up to 11. Titles like GRID and F1 2019 are a showcase to the finely-tuned gameplay sensibilities this studio has developed. Few people would disagree that developer Codemasters are the kings of making fantastic racing games.
